Cost-Effective Solution Keeps Criminal Justice Information Data Secure

    November 10, 2015
RESTON, VA–( Carahsoft Technology Corp.)– Carahsoft Technology Corp., the trusted government IT solutions provider, and  Virtru Corporation, an email encryption company, announced today that Virtru’s CJIS-compliance encryption solution for Google Apps is now available for purchase through Carahsoft. This new encryption solution keeps data covered by the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) secure throughout its lifecycle, ensuring only authorized parties can decrypt and read sensitive emails and files.

CJIS mandates strong protections for data exchanged by law enforcement agencies, including end-to-end encryption. Traditionally this process has been costly and complex to set up and maintain. Virtru, a Google for Work Partner and a leading provider of end-to-end encryption solutions, has created an easy-to-use, cost-effective email encryption solution to enable compliance with CJIS requirements. Virtru is currently integrated with Gmail and will soon release an encryption offering for Google Drive.

Google Apps for Work is a suite of collaborative productivity apps that offers professional email, shared calendars, online document editing and storage, video meetings, and more. Virtru provides a layer of secure encryption on top of Google Apps. This innovative collaboration enables agencies to securely exchange CJIS content while achieving the cost savings of Google Apps.

The 256-bit, end-to-end encryption solution was designed by an Intelligence Community cloud security architect and surpasses the FBI’s standards for CJI data security within emails and stored/shared/transmitted file formats. Moreover, while most encryption solutions require complex setup and management, Virtru sets up in minutes and is deeply integrated with Google Apps for Work, enabling users to:

    • Manage encryption keys, ensuring control over who can access content and for how long.
    • Ensure that only authorized parties can ever access unencrypted content.
    • Share sensitive information with anyone without the need for manual key exchange or cumbersome portals.
    • Revoke, expire and control forwarding in Gmail

“We are excited to offer this joint solution as it is ideal for law enforcement and government agencies of all sizes who must comply with CJIS directives for securely managing, transmitting and interacting with CJI data,” said Terry Drinkwine, vice president of the Google Solutions team at Carahsoft. “The level of encryption that Virtru offers for Google Drive and Gmail exceeds FBI standards while still maintaining the same low costs associated with Google Apps.”

In addition to enabling CJIS-compliance, this integrated solution also addresses Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance requirements.
