Virtru’s roots are in the federal government.
My brother, Will Ackerly, and I started Virtru as a result of our federal experiences: Will spent years specializing in cross-agency cloud analytics and security architecture at the National Security Agency, and I worked as a technology policy advisor in the White House and served as the Policy and Strategic Planning Director at the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Though we had different roles at different agencies, we both observed the same trends: Information silos and severely limited data-sharing capabilities. These silos prevented federal agencies from spotting patterns and trends; they hindered collaboration; and from a pragmatic perspective, sharing sensitive data securely was time-consuming, difficult, and costly—we’re talking about allocating a significant amount of manpower and spending hours of our time just to effectively share a single piece of critical information.
So, Will and I started Virtru to deliver simple, powerful security to unlock data sharing and give people greater control over their information. In the 10 years since Virtru’s founding, we’ve partnered with dozens of federal, state, and local agencies to solve some of their most difficult data-sharing conundrums — whether that’s sharing sensitive information with select coalition partners and allies, or applying lightweight encryption to sensor data in extremely low-bandwidth environments.
Partnering with federal government agencies has always been important to us at Virtru. Now, we’re proud to share a new milestone in our relationships with the federal community: Virtru has joined the Alliance for Digital Innovation (ADI), an organization that fosters public- and private-sector collaboration to modernize government technology.
With ADI, we’re in good company: Fellow ADI member organizations include Google Cloud, AWS, Adobe, Salesforce, Splunk, and Zscaler. Together, we’re committed to bringing innovative, modern solutions to government tech to strengthen our nation’s cybersecurity and technology posture.
I shared this in ADI’s announcement, but it bears repeating: When private- and public-sector organizations join forces to innovate together, powerful things happen: We can solve problems quickly, overcome legacy challenges, and fortify our national security.
Virtru is proud to join the Alliance for Digital Innovation to help public-sector organizations secure the critical, sensitive data our nation depends on.
