There are many things that contribute to a great workplace: Respect, meaningful work, flexibility, inclusivity, overcoming challenges, and feeling a sense of belonging — just to name a few.
Virtru’s mission has always been about people. Our motto is, “Respect the people. Respect the data.” And that respect shines through, both internally and externally: We are proud to share that Virtru has earned a spot on the Washington Post’s 2022 Top Workplaces list for the Greater Washington area.
Selection for Top Workplaces is based solely on the results of an anonymous survey of employees, conducted by Energage, LLC. The survey measured several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection.
“From its early days, Virtru has always put its people first and has strived to create an inclusive culture that values its employees and works to amplify their talents,” said our Head of People and Talent, Conley McIntyre. As Virtru continues to grow, this award validates the incredible work of our team to strengthen and enrich our company culture.
One thing that makes this announcement so notable is that it is based purely on employees’ anonymous feedback about what it’s really like to work at Virtru. In addition to our strong results on the Energage employee survey, Virtru also has a Glassdoor rating of 4.5 stars, with 93% of respondents saying they’d recommend working at Virtru to a friend, plus a 95% approval rating of our CEO, John Ackerly.
So, what do Virtruvians find most rewarding about their work? Here are a few highlights from our team.
“Each day presents new challenges, which turns into opportunities for me to learn something new or improve on an existing skill. I am definitely fond of the challenge to continue leveling-up professionally to better serve our customer deployments and help share what I have learned with colleagues as well.”
Jenna, Deployment Engineer“I love that we're doing something that really matters in the world. Privacy is a real problem and we're bringing real-world solutions. The people are tremendous — smart but not egotistical and we work hard but also take time off and know how to have fun together. We take calculated risks and are developing good muscle around vetting opportunities and building confidence in directional aspirations.”
Anonymous“I strive to be constantly evolving to find better ways to work, how to get the most out of my team, and give my best work each day. Seeing others do the same motivates me to continue the good fight.”
Daniel, VP, Product Management“When I chose to pursue a career in recruiting, I quickly realized my favorite thing about it was watching potential candidates grow and flourish into new hires and team members. In my role, not only am I able to recruit the top talent, but I am a part of the team that ensures their time growing at Virtru is enjoyable.”
Isabella, Sr. Recruiting and People Operations Associate“One of my favorite things about Virtru is that we celebrate each other’s wins on a regular basis. It’s one thing to solve an important problem or create something new — but when that work is also recognized, appreciated, and shouted-out by peers and leadership? That’s such a great feeling, and it’s really become core to how we operate as a larger team. Whether it’s our monthly Demo Days or our all-hands meetings dedicated solely to celebrating wins, the uplifting energy at Virtru is something I’ve never experienced at another company.”

Virtru’s team is genuinely passionate about data privacy and helping people protect sensitive information — whether that’s medical records, private personal information like your social security number or address, financial information, business data, customer contact information, intellectual property, and myriad other types of data that need to be safeguarded.
Not only do people need a way to protect their most sensitive information, but they also need a way to do it easily, without hurdles or adding friction to their day. Our team works diligently to achieve that ideal balance of simplicity and security, to create experiences that truly delight our customers.
As a result, we often receive great feedback, which helps fuel our work every day. So often, when we ask, “Why did you choose Virtru? What made the difference for you?,” the answer is, “It’s just so easy.”
That sense of relief that Virtru provides — of giving security and IT leaders a simple path to confident, secure collaboration — is at the heart of what we strive for at Virtru. And with this recognition from The Washington Post, the Virtru team is thrilled to continue bringing our best to work every day, just as we’ve done for the past 10 years.
